In The Art of Teaching Writing Lucy Calkins notes: "Time and again, people say that for them, the turning points were the times they were published. Even our most famous literary figures remember, in vivid detail, what it first felt like to have their words read aloud, to see their texts in print."
We now have a new, interactive way for students to publish their work – the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch! These devices allow young writers to share their work in a way never before possible. We have already seen these devices take on a role in schools and homes as innovative learning tools. This app attempts to break new ground in another area – student publishing.
This app is NOT a template that would allow you to publish your own students writing for the iPhone. Instead, this is a celebration of the work of 27 students from the Marysville Cooperative Education Program. And it is a fundraiser, so all profits will go to support the MCEP.
A note from the writers:
Hello, Reader!
We are Mr. Corts Cogitators - a fourth grade class in the Marysville Cooperative Education Program. We love to write and we want to share some of our work with you.
We have included personal narratives and expository essays, fiction and non-fiction, all by our class! As you read these stories you will experience our effort and hard work from throughout the year.
We want to thank our parents and the Marysville Cooperative Education Program. We could not create innovative projects like this without them! We also want to thank the Marysville School District and our principal, Mrs. Gurnee.
So enough with this product description, go listen to some stories by the Cogitators! You are going to be immersed in our world and we hope you can hear our voice coming through. Please enjoy it! And if you like our work, let us know by clicking the "Send Fan Mail" button contained in the app to send an encouraging note to Mr. Cort for us!
